COMMUNITY

Closed road events in England have only been recently permitted by the 2017 Legislation amendment. Events to date have been run at Clacton on Sea, Garstang near Preston and Malvern Herefordshire, all the events have attracted significant interest from both competitors and spectators.

The South Yorkshire stages will follow a similar format to the previous events. Our ambition is for the event to be the safest and best closed road stage rally in England, using the challenging and spectacular stages we have selected. We expect 120 cars to take part in the event. This will create a substantial revenue for hotels and hospitality for the duration of the event. We also expect the event to be a major spectator attraction for both local residents and Motorsport enthusiasts from a wider area. The competitors will be permitted to drive the route the day before the event but only in standard road cars and must comply with all Road Traffic Regulations. Pre event practicing is strictly forbidden and any crew identified undertaking such activity will be reported to Motorsport UK.

All residents affected by the closed roads will be consulted prior to the event and for the duration of the road closure will have a local point of contact in the event of an emergency.

We have engaged with Barnsley safety advisory group (BMBC, South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and Yorkshire Ambulance Service) regarding the running of the event and we will also engage with Yorkshire Water, British Gas, Yorkshire Electricity and BT. In the event of any incidents involving any of the utilities swift action to rectify the situation can take place.
